Basketball Recap: Riley Monarco Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Walsenburg

Primero's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 54-30 margin over the Walsenburg Panthers. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Primero's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Monarco, who went 5 of 12 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Monarco a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Alyvia Robinson, who posted ten points along with six boards and three steals.

Primero's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-7. As for Walsenburg, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Primero will host La Veta at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Aspen Autry and Isabela Maldonado. As for Walsenburg, they and Swallows Charter Academy will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played.
