Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Volunteer). They breezed by the Sullivan East Patriots to the tune of 94-61 on Tuesday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-26.
Volunteer got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Owen Tullock out in front who went 9 of 12 en route to 20 points and seven assists. Another player making a difference was Lucas Gilliam, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Tullock wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Volunteer was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sullivan East only racked up six assists.
Despite the defeat, Sullivan East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Eli Hubbard went 9 of 12 on his way to 19 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Ridlehuber, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.
With the win, Volunteer broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7. As for Sullivan East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.
