Softball Recap: Haywood's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Haywood dropped their record down to 12-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They lost 13-0 to the Dyer County Choctaws. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Tomcats were not able to get on the board.

Haywood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Smoot, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.

As for Dyer County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-8 record this season. Considering they have won 14 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Dyer County's side, Rylee Key was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Key has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Katie Caldwell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Abbie Gibbons, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As of now, neither Haywood nor Dyer County have any future games scheduled.
