Football Game Preview: Wildwood Wildcats vs. Tarpon Springs Spongers

The Wildwood Wildcats will square off against the Tarpon Springs Spongers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wildwood will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Wildwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past The Villages Charter 48-0. Considering the Wildcats have won six games by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Wildwood's victory came down to the chemistry between Zoey Brown and her top target Trinidy Harris. Brown threw for 244 yards and six touchdowns while Harris gained 74 total yards and three touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in passer rating (133.6).

Wildwood didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited The Villages Charter to a completion percentage of just 48%. The team can thank Ja'niya Corbin for the heroic effort on defense: she. Wildwood wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 71%.

Wildwood's defense didn't let Amelia O'Brien., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ranyla Jackson.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Tarpon Springs' offense. They took a 6-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dunedin on Thursday. The Spongers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Tarpon Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Niki Pantelis and Ranyiah Lowe. Pantelis has been hot for a while, having also posted six or more total tackles the last 11 times she's played.

Wildwood's record is now 9-0. As for Tarpon Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
