Football Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

Gateway fell victim to Lennard and their airtight defense on Friday. They were outmatched by the Longhorns and fell 50-0. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Longhorns are ranked 189th).

Even if they lost, Gateway's defensive line still kept up the pressure with eight sacks. Leading the way was Jeramie Hicks with 2.5. Hicks is crushing it when it comes to sacks: he's posted at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Joseph Mendez was another major factor on D, picking up 0.5 sacks, forcing one fumble, and making nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Lennard's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ronnie Wilson, who rushed for 71 yards and one TD on only ten carries, and also caught one touchdown. Another back making a difference was Marcus Dixon, who rushed for 61 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries.

Gateway's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lennard, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Gateway didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 49-7 loss against Immokalee on the 19th. As for Lennard, they have also already played their next matchup, a 53-0 win against Leto on the 19th.
