Basketball Recap: Moapa Valley Takes a Loss

Moapa Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pahrump Valley Trojans. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Moapa Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaxson Bunker, who posted 19 points. Bunker's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brigham Whitmore, who put up six points in addition to five steals and three blocks.

Pahrump Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alejandro Lozano, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points and five assists. The dominant performance gave Lozano a new career-high in assists. Jack Toth was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Moapa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Pahrump Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Moapa Valley will look to defend their home court on December 20th against Somerset Sky Pointe at 6:30 p.m. Somerset Sky Pointe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season. As for Pahrump Valley, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lincoln County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
