After both having extra time off, the Mission San Jose Warriors and the Washington Huskies will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mission San Jose will be strutting in after a win while Washington will be coming in after a loss.
Mission San Jose took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Irvington.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (113-107) Mission San Jose actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 28-30, 15-12.
Meanwhile, Washington was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of James Logan.
The match came down to the wire multiple times:three sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The final score came out to 26-24, 27-25, 24-26, 22-25, 15-8.
Mission San Jose will have to contain Michael Peng as he made an impact in Washington's last game. He had 13 digs and one assist. Kurtis Chan also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Mission San Jose has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Everything went Mission San Jose's way against Washington when the teams last played back in March, as Mission San Jose made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
