Recap: Cardinal Newman Crusaders vs. Leonard Lancers
The Cardinal Newman Crusaders can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 79-53 margin over Leonard. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Cardinal Newman has posted since November 28, 2023.
Jermaine Council continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alex Grande, who scored 16 points along with three steals.
Loss or not, Leonard got some senior leadership from Reggie Presendieu who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds and Emmanuel Augustin who scored 15 points along with five assists and four steals. That's the first time this season that Presendieu scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Simpson, who scored eight points.
Cardinal Newman's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.4 points per game. As for Leonard, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Cardinal Newman and Braddock will face off at 11:30 a.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Averaging 68.7 so far this season, Braddock's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Cardinal Newman better be ready for a challenge. As for Leonard, they will head out on the road to challenge Pahokee at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
