Baseball Game Preview: Lane Tech Champions vs. Payton College Prep Grizzlies

For the second straight game, Lane Tech will face off against Payton College Prep. The Champions will head out to challenge the Grizzlies at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Lane Tech will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Lane Tech got the win against Payton College Prep by a conclusive 11-1.

Ronan Owens tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Henry Murray and Tyler Trapp did most of the damage at the plate: Murray went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and one run, while Trapp went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Lane Tech is 7-1 when Trapp posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alex Ziegler, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Lane Tech's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.25 runs across that stretch. As for Payton College Prep, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-9.
