Softball Recap: Manvel Takes a Loss

Manvel suffered their closest defeat since April 19, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Dawson Eagles by a score of 10-8. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2020.

Skylar Frederick stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kaylah Hopkins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Manvel and nudges their season record down to 8-7. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Dawson, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Manvel and Dawson will both be playing Dobie the next time they take the field. Manvel will head out to face Dobie at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Dawson will head out to face them at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
