Basketball Recap: Emma Fuller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Providence over Fort Mill

Providence lost against Fort Mill last Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Providence Panthers took a 58-40 bruising from the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 368th in North Carolina, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 52nd in South Carolina).

Providence's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Fuller, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Fuller is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliott Stafford, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Providence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Fort Mill found their leader in sophomore Colbie Wolf, who earned 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wolf has scored all season.

Providence's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Fort Mill, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Providence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-51 loss against Charlotte Catholic on the 17th. As for Fort Mill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-32 defeat against Andrew Jackson on the 16th.
