Basketball Game Preview: Leake County Gators vs. Mount Olive Pirates

Leake County is 8-2 against Mount Olive since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Leake County Gators will square off against the Mount Olive Pirates at 8:30 p.m. Leake County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Leake County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-52 to Taylorsville.

Leake County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of LaTavean Fortune, who posted 17 points and three steals, and Johnathan Brown, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those 12 points gave Brown a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquailyn Pippen, who earned eight points.

Mount Olive hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They had just enough and edged Stringer out 42-40.

Leake County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Mount Olive, their win bumped their record up to 5-13.

Everything came up roses for Leake County against Mount Olive in their previous meeting last Saturday, as the squad secured an 83-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Leake County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
