Basketball Recap: Jefferson County Takes a Loss

Jefferson County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They took a blow against the Washington County Golden Hawks, falling 59-20. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 466th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 102nd).

Jefferson County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sha'Niah Pitts, who posted a point in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals, and Jaelissia Reeves, who scored two points and 11 boards. Pitts is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Jefferson County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Washington County was led to victory by Jade Kitchens and Emmya Gamble. Kitchens went 5 for 9 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Gamble went 6 of 7 to rack up 12 points. That's the most points Gamble has posted since back in December of 2024. Hayden Bell also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Jefferson County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Washington County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Jefferson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Washington County, they have already played their next contest, a 66-42 win against Dodge County on the 8th.
