Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Center Comes Up Short

Victory Christian Center lost against 1 of 1 Academy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Victory Christian Center Kings had to suffer through a 77-49 loss at the hands of the 1 of 1 Academy -. While losing is never fun, the Kings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the - are ranked eighth).

Victory Christian Center lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sofia Ponce, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Ponce is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last seven games she's played. Isabell Berhe was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 14 points.

1 of 1 Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jodi King led the charge by going 7 for 9 on her way to 14 points and five assists. That's the most points King has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Hankerson, who went 6 of 14 en route to 13 points along with six assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Victory Christian Center and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for 1 of 1 Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Victory Christian Center will face off against Ambassador Christian School at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for 1 of 1 Academy, they will take on Legion Collegiate Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
