St. Francis is 2-8 against Monticello since May of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Saints will challenge the Magic at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
St. Francis took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Zimmerman. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monticello). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Cambridge-Isanti an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Magic haven't had any issues with the Bluejackets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Carter Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Monticello got a massive performance out of Adam Brenny, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Brenny a new career-high. Dom Marschel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Monticello always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
St. Francis' record now sits at 8-5. As for Monticello, their record is now 11-3.
St. Francis came up short against Monticello when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 6-1. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
