Softball Recap: Roane County Comes Up Short

Roane County blew Ripley out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Ripley got their revenge. The Raiders fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 8-6. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Fair Smelko was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Roane County's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-3. As for Ripley, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roane County will face off against Calhoun at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Ripley, they will head out to face off against Lincoln County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
