Basketball Recap: St. Edward's Comes Up Short at Home Against Cocoa Beach + How To Watch

St. Edward unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Cocoa Beach Minutemen by a score of 72-70 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pirates have suffered since January 18th.

Cody Simmonds and Jayzere Cannon certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Simmonds went 6-for-15 to rack up 23 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Cannon shot 40% from the field en route to 20 points and seven boards. Simmonds has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times he's played. Wyatt Burdick was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Cocoa Beach found their leader in sophomore Tristan Louis, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Billy Kilpatrick, who posted ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Cocoa Beach has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

St. Edward's didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-46 defeat against Benjamin on the 19th. As for Cocoa Beach, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-42 loss against Melbourne on the 20th.
