Basketball Recap: Breanna Reeves Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Thunder Ridge

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rock Hills, Pike Valley was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Thunder Ridge Longhorns by a score of 43-30. The team accrued 32 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

Pike Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Breanna Reeves led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Reeves a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bailey Odell, who posted six points and three steals.

Defeat or not, Thunder Ridge got some senior leadership from Jennifer Cochrun and Jenna Barnes. Cochrun earned seven points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Barnes had nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Barnes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last eight games she's played. Addison Molzahn also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first boards of the season.

Pike Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points per game. As for Thunder Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Pike Valley Panthers challenge the Stockton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Stockton's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Pike Valley's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Thunder Ridge, they will venture away from home to take on St. John's/Tipton Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
