Lulu West spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Desert Hills' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jojo Sparks, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Hurricane never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Snow Canyon 9-0.
Not much got past Austin Terry, who gave up just eight hits to keep Snow Canyon off the board.
At the plate, Ruby Seely and Faith Fuller did most of the damage at the plate: Seely scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Fuller scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Seely a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Hirschi, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Desert Hills' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hurricane, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.
Hurricane's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Desert Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Hurricane, though, as they've been averaging only 2.3 strikeouts. Will Desert Hills keep running through batters, or will Hurricane buck the trend?
Desert Hills took their win against Hurricane in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. Does Desert Hills have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hurricane turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
