Houston County is 9-1 against McEwen since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Fighting Irish will take on the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Houston County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
While Houston County's victory against Northwest wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Fighting Irish sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Vikings on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Fighting Irish in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Brilee Anderson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Preslee Moore was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Peyton Brooks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Houston County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwest struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, McEwen's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They lost 7-1 to Stewart County.
McEwen saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Lastovka, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
McEwen's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Houston County, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Houston County's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Fighting Irish have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for McEwen, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Houston County continue to outrun the ball?
Houston County couldn't quite finish off McEwen when the teams last played back in March and fell 5-3. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
