Softball Recap: Fairmont Takes a Loss

Fairmont dropped their record down to 16-9 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Centerville Elks by a score of 4-2. The Firebirds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Elks earlier this season, when they won 9-5.

Fairmont saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlee Netherton, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Centerville, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Centerville's side, Caitlyn Belcher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Natalie Carr, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Hannah O'Connor was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Fairmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Centerville, they will take on Jackson at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Polar Bears will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Elks surely won't give up without a fight.
