Baseball Recap: Odessa Extends Winning Streak to Two

Odessa lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lake Forest, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. The Ducks never let the Spartans get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Friday. For the Ducks, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 victory the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Not much got past Dylan Schimpf, who gave up just two hits to keep Lake Forest off the board.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Spencer Flayhart, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Odessa: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Crowe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Odessa and bumps their season record up to 4-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lake Forest, they moved to 5-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Odessa will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
