Basketball Recap: Meyersdale Red Raiders vs. Rockwood Rockets

The Meyersdale Red Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight defeat. They lost to Rockwood at home by a decisive 54-38 margin. Meyersdale was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Meyersdale's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Vogt, who scored 11 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vogt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hainsworth, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Leading Rockwood to victory were Zander Ritenour and Christian Schrock. Ritenour scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Schrock dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Ritenour has scored at least a third of Rockwood's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Fazenbaker, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Meyersdale dropped their record down to 1-17 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Rockwood, their victory ended a 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-13.

Meyersdale will challenge the Rams at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Turkeyfoot Valley Area has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 295 points over their last four matches. As for Rockwood, they will be playing at home against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Shanksville Stonycreek is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.
