Volleyball Game Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Farmington Phoenix

Layton hasn't had much luck against Farmington recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lancers will venture away from home to take on the Phoenix at 5:00 p.m.

Layton is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to Davis.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-19, 25-12.

Meanwhile, Farmington faced Bountiful in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Phoenix came out on top in a nail-biter against the RedHawks, sneaking past 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Phoenix sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Farmington wouldn't go down easily and took Bountiful into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10.

Farmington's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. As for Layton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Layton hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 4 blocks per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 blocks. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Layton suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Farmington in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
