Baseball Recap: Dallas County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Selma last Thursday, Dallas County came back down to earth. The Hornets took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southside Panthers on Tuesday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Devin Woods put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three stolen bases and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Joshua Davis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Julian Dixon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Dallas County's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Southside, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Coming up, Dallas County will face off against Keith at 4:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Southside, they will square off against Brewbaker Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
