Softball Recap: Mart Has No Trouble Against Abbott

Mart won the last time they faced Abbott and things went their way on Friday too. Mart blew past Abbott 8-2. Mart might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Marley Maas was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Vega, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Giselle Chavez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Mart and bumps their season record up to 13-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Abbott, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.

Coming up, Mart will take on Dawson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.63 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Abbott, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Texas Wind at 6:30 p.m. on the 21st.
