It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but East Moline United ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Moline Maroons. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 6-1 win the Maroons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.
Samantha Verstraete made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Verstraete was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Mea Johnson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Miah Berhenke also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The victory made it two in a row for East Moline United and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Moline, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
East Moline United will take on Kaneland at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Moline, they will face off against Normal West at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
