Basketball Recap: Horizon Hawks vs. Arvada West Wildcats
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 55-23, which was the final score in the Horizon Hawks's tilt against the Arvada West Wildcats on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Wildcats are ranked 15th).
Bella Alvarado was Horizon's leading scorer, having posted six points. Gabby Newble held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.
Saylor Swanson was nothing short of spectacular for Arvada West: she went 7-for-12 on her way to 21 points. Swanson continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Grace Schillie also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.
This is the second loss in a row for Horizon and nudges their season record down to 11-10. As for Arvada West, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.
Coming up, Horizon is taking a road trip to take on Longmont at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arvada West, they will be playing at home against Chatfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chatfield has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
