Softball Recap: Mitchell Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mitchell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Land O' Lakes Gators, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since April 17, 2025.

Savannah Toukatly spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, MacKenzie Tucker was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madyson Whitaker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mitchell lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Land O' Lakes didn't launched any.

Mitchell's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Land O' Lakes, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will challenge Wiregrass Ranch at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.8, the Bulls 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Land O' Lakes, they will be playing at home against Wesley Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
