Basketball Game Preview: Haywood Christian Academy Red Wolves vs. Veritas Christian Academy Warriors

The Haywood Christian Academy Red Wolves will square off against the Veritas Christian Academy Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Haywood Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Temple Baptist, taking the game 48-41.

Haywood Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lexi Mendez out in front who posted 19 points. Another player making a difference was Cherish Carson, who earned 12 points.

Meanwhile, Veritas Christian Academy came tearing into last Monday's contest with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Lions for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-15 victory. The Warriors pushed the score to 45-9 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions cut but never quite recovered from.

Veritas Christian Academy's win came from a few key players Haywood Christian Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brooke Miller, who put up 13 points along with seven steals and five assists. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 27 games she's played dating back to last season. Kendall Burroughs was another key player, going 5-for-9 on her way to 14 points.

Veritas Christian Academy's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.9 points over those games. As for Haywood Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.

Haywood Christian Academy was taken down by Veritas Christian Academy 59-19 when the teams last played back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Haywood Christian Academy was down 31-8.
