Baseball Game Preview: Zanesville Blue Devils vs. Watkins Memorial Warriors

Zanesville hasn't had much luck against Watkins Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blue Devils will welcome the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. The match will give Zanesville their first taste of in-conference action this season.

Last Wednesday, Zanesville came up short against Sheridan and fell 5-2. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Canon Mercer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Noah Darnes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Watkins Memorial fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Beech last Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 6-5.

Brayden Windnagel put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Windnagel was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Tyler Vincent was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jax Dotson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Watkins Memorial now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Zanesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Zanesville suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Watkins Memorial in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
