Preview: Diamond Bar Brahmas vs. Orange Panthers
Diamond Bar is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Orange is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Diamond Bar Brahmas will take on the Orange Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Diamond Bar put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Ontario 42-0 at home. Given Diamond Bar's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Ontario is ranked 990th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Diamond Bar relied on the efforts of Sean Thompson, who rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns, and Quinton Mendoza, who threw for 147 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Brian Vu also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Orange owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They took down Santa Ana 14-0.
Ardwon Morris was his usual excellent self, rushing for 361 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Morris is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played.
Diamond Bar is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. As for Orange, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Diamond Bar has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Orange struggles in that department as they've been even better at 313.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
