Softball Game Preview: Encinal Jets vs. Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles

The Encinal Jets are taking a road trip to take on the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Thursday, Encinal didn't have quite enough to beat St. Helena and fell 9-8.

Kiely Wong was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Sonia Walker was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Wong wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Encinal kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Clayton Valley Charter's offense. They came up short against Castro Valley on Thursday, falling 10-0. The loss was the Ugly Eagles' first of the season.

Encinal has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Having lost for the first time this season, Clayton Valley Charter fell to 2-1-1.

Encinal beat Clayton Valley Charter 7-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Encinal since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
