Basketball Recap: Haxtun Comes Up Short

Haxtun and Vail Christian squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Haxtun had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Saints by a score of 56-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Fightin' Bulldogs have suffered since January 4, 2025.

Despite the loss, Haxtun still got an impressive performance from Chase Goddard, who posted 18 points. Goddard is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Colin Cone, who earned ten points along with eight boards and three steals.

Vail Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Oliver Neumann out in front who shot 53% from the field to rack up 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack O'Shaugnessy, who put up ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

Haxtun moved to 16-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Vail Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-4.

Haxtun does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Vail Christian, they will face off against Simla at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints will need to watch out since the Cubs have now posted at least 55 points in their last 12 games.
