Football Preview: South Spartans vs. Mira Monte Lions        
        
		
             South has gone 6-0 against Mira Monte recently and they'll look to pad the win column further  on Friday. The South Spartans' homestand will continue as they prepare to take on the Mira Monte Lions at 7:30  p.m. South knows how to get  points on the board -- the  squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Mira Monte likes a good challenge.
 Last Friday, South made easy work of East Bakersfield  and carried off  a  34-14 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 20  points or more this season.
 It was another big night for  Josh Encinas, who threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.  Gyrell Hasley was  Encinas' top target, picking up 43 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground.
 South wouldn't let East Bakersfield keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. South can thank  David Gonzalez and  Herby Hinojosa for forcing both of them.
 Meanwhile, Mira Monte hadn't done well against Golden Valley recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way  on Thursday. Mira Monte secured  a  20-14 W over Golden Valley.
  Nathan Gonzales was  his usual excellent self, rushing for 150 yards and two touchdowns. He is becoming a predictor of Mira Monte's success: when he posts  at  least two  rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't).
 South's win was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Mira Monte, their victory  ended  a  four-game drought at home  dating back to last season and  bumped them up to 3-4.
 Everything came up roses for South against Mira Monte in their previous meeting  back in October of 2019, as the  team secured  a  43-6 win. In that  contest, South amassed a halftime lead of  28-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat  on Friday.
