Preview: Unity Christian Knights vs. Quad Cities Christian Eagles
Unity Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Quad Cities Christian Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Unity Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Unity Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 55-54 win over Varsity Opponent. That a single point margin sets a new team best for Unity Christian this season.
Samm Wilbur was the offensive standout of the contest as he dropped a double-double on 29 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Graham Foust, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Quad Cities Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Morning Star Academy by a score of 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Quad Cities Christian has suffered yet this season.
Despite their loss, Quad Cities Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cobie Becker-Paradiso, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four blocks, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeke Agbezouhlon, who scored eight points along with five steals and four blocks.
Unity Christian's win ended a nine-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-12. As for Quad Cities Christian, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Unity Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Quad Cities Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Unity Christian took a serious blow against Quad Cities Christian in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 70-32. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Unity Christian was down 45-19.
