Basketball Recap: Northfield Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

There's no place like home for Northfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 57-47 win over the Churubusco Eagles on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Norsemen also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Northfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laney Haupert led the charge by as she made all 6 shots she took to post 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Haupert a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Callie Hoffman, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Churubusco lost, don't look at Patty Wiggs. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points and six steals. Wiggs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Brooklyn Sinclair was another key player, putting up 14 points and four steals.

Northfield's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Churubusco, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.

Northfield has already played their next contest, a 38-34 loss against Southwood on the 5th. As for Churubusco, they will take on Prairie Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Churubusco is facing Prairie Heights at the right time seeing as Prairie Heights is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
