Preview: Archmere Academy Auks vs. Caravel Buccaneers
Archmere Academy has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Caravel Buccaneers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Archmere Academy walked away with it. They took their game at home on Saturday with ease, bagging a 56-28 victory over the Raiders. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but Archmere Academy was the (much) better team in the second half.
Miles Kempski was on fire: he rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Duncan did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Caravel put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They didn't even let Howard onto the board and left with a 36-0 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Caravel just coasted through the last quarter.
Archmere Academy pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.2 points per game. As for Caravel, their victory bumped their record up to 12-0.
Archmere Academy suffered a grim 28-2 defeat to Caravel when the teams last played back in September. Can Archmere Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
