Preview: South Fork Cubs vs. Calistoga Wildcats
The South Fork Cubs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Calistoga Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
South Fork had to endure a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Tomales 46-0 at home. The win was just what South Fork needed coming off of a 46-22 loss in their prior contest.
South Fork can attribute much of their success to Shevy Bero-Vanmeter , who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown, and Wesley Way, who rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown. Way's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Boden Bero-Vanmeter made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Calistoga was not quite California School for the Deaf's equal in the second half on Thursday. Calistoga took a hard 52-36 fall against California School for the Deaf. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (34), Calistoga still had to take the loss.
Finally capturing their first win of the season, South Fork advanced to 1-6. As for Calistoga, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-3.
South Fork strolled past Calistoga when the teams last played back in September of 2022 by a score of 29-12. Does South Fork have another victory up their sleeve, or will Calistoga turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
