Basketball Recap: School of the Woods Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact School of the Woods can now relate to. They were beaten by the Humble Christian Cougars 57-25 on Thursday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this matchup were averaging 29.25 points allowed.

Despite the loss, School of the Woods still got an impressive performance from Kate Checo-Leckova, who posted six points in addition to nine boards and five blocks. The dominant performance gave Checo-Leckova a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Olivia Nettles, who earned seven steals.

Humble Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lilly McMullen, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. McMullen has become a key player for Humble Christian: the team is 5-1 when she posts at least ten boards, but 4-14 otherwise. Deriyah Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds.

School of the Woods' loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Humble Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.
