Baseball Recap: Woodrow Wilson Has No Trouble Against James Monroe

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Albans, Woodrow Wilson was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They put the hurt on the James Monroe Mavericks with a sharp 9-0 victory. With that win, the Flying Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Tyler Wilhite made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Maddex Sims was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Woodrow Wilson: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Austin Long, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Woodrow Wilson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Monroe only posted an OBP of .167.

The victory got Woodrow Wilson back to even at 6-6. As for James Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Coincidentally, Woodrow Wilson and James Monroe will both be playing Bluefield the next time they take the field. The Flying Eagles will head out to face the Beavers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Mavericks will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
