Softball Recap: Georgetown Day Starts Season with Win at Home

Georgetown Day gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the Jackson-Reed Tigers with a sharp 18-8 victory. For the Mighty Hoppers, this counts as revenge for the 10-1 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2019.

Ellie Snyder made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. Snyder was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Isabella Yip was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Harper Lunde was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Georgetown Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Georgetown Day has already played their next match, a 12-8 victory against Smith Jewish Day School on the 12th. As for Jackson-Reed, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-9 loss against Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart on the 11th.
