Softball Recap: Dublin Comes Up Short

Dublin extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monte Vista Mustangs. The Gaels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Caitlyn Carr and Lola Villalobos did some serious damage despite the final result: Carr went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run, while Villalobos went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Sydney Salazar was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Monte Vista, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Monte Vista's side, Samantha Kaiman made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Kaiman has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hailey Frantz was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Lily Parikh also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Dublin and Monte Vista could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Gaels will face off against Granada at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (611 vs. 149). Meanwhile, Monte Vista (ranked 388th) will meet California (ranked 90th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
