Softball Recap: West Anchorage Eagles vs. Eagle River Wolves
West Anchorage gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Everything went their way against the Eagle River Wolves as the West Anchorage Eagles made off with a 17-5 victory. This was payback for West Anchorage, who suffered an 8-7 loss the last time these two teams met.
Olivia Chichenoff made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Chichenoff was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Olivia Byrd was incredible, going 2-for-5 with two runs, a triple, and a stolen base. Sofie Bernal was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
On Eagle River's side, Ryleigh Green was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
West Anchorage will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Eagle River at 7:45 p.m. As for Eagle River, they will head out on the road to square off against Bartlett at 7:45 p.m. on Monday.
