Basketball Recap: Hancock Central Takes a Loss

Hancock Central was the 66-57 winner over Wilkinson County when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hancock Central Bulldogs were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 67-66 to the Wilkinson County Warriors. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (57), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Hancock Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josiah Ingram went 11 of 16 on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of Hancock Central's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontriel Grable, who had nine points.

Even though they lost, Hancock Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Hancock Central has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Wilkinson County, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5.

Hancock Central will host Twiggs County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hancock Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Wilkinson County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-38 win against Wilcox County on the 4th.
