Austin Brown was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Wasatch: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolden Hafen, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wasatch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Maple Mountain hit Salem Hills with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Skyhawks lost 11-1 to the Golden Eagles. The Skyhawks have struggled against the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Salem Hills saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb DeGraffenried, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
The win made it two in a row for Wasatch and bumps their season record up to 14-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Salem Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.
Salem Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wasatch has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Salem Hills, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Wasatch's sizable advantage in that area, the Skyhawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
