Basketball Recap: 21st Century Charter Triumphs

21st Century Charter's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 58-48 victory over the Valparaiso Vikings. Give the Cougars' offense some serious credit: that high-scoring performance was actually the fewest points they've scored all season.

21st Century Charter had a senior duo take command as Terrence Hayes Jr. almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds and Jerry Triplett III shot 60% from the field en route to 13 points and six boards. Those 60% shooting accuracy set a new season-high mark for Triplett III. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacolby Donaldson, who posted eight points.

21st Century Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

21st Century Charter now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Valparaiso, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. 21st Century Charter will take on Hammond Central in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Valparaiso and Hammond Bishop Noll will compete for holiday cheer at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Vikings will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.86 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
