Basketball Recap: Shining Light Academy's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Shining Light Academy waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They strolled past the NC H Heat with points to spare, taking the game 66-50. The score was all tied up 26-26 at the break, but the Knights were the better team in the second half.

Shining Light Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Watlington, who shot 75% from the field on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Watlington is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Evaro, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Shining Light Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as NC H only racked up five.

Several Heat players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maxx Perrino, who went 8-for-9 to rack up 20 points and seven rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Perrino now owns an excellent 49.1% field goal percentage. Asher Fowler was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

Shining Light Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for NC H, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Shining Light Academy will take on Cornerstone Christian Academy in a holiday battle at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for NC H, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2026.
