Basketball Recap: Sam Houston Comes Up Short

Sam Houston lost against Lake Charles College Prep back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The contest between the Sam Houston Broncos and the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers didn't end well, with the Sam Houston Broncos falling 63-48. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Trailblazers are ranked 16th).

Lake Charles College Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Burns, who posted 18 points. The dominant performance gave Burns a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jaiven Matthews, who scored 17 points.

Sam Houston now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Lake Charles College Prep, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.

When Sam Houston and Lake Charles College Prep next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Sam Houston will challenge Anacoco and their five-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lake Charles College Prep will try to stop DeRidder's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
