Recap: Dobson Mustangs vs. Gilbert Tigers
The Dobson Mustangs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 27-19 to Gilbert. Dobson lost against Gilbert in their previous head to head back in September of 2017, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 48-0 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Dobson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Allen Wallace. Despite the final result, he rushed for 203 yards while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Wallace was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards.
Gilbert can attribute much of their success to Zach Thompson, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Dobson's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.3 points per game. As for Gilbert, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dobson will face off against Sunnyslope at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunnyslope will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Gilbert, they will head out on the road to face off against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Skyline is ranked 87th, while Gilbert is ranked 94th).
